Friday Morning - Staff Mass

"I don't particularly like today's Gospel..."
This morning, at 10am, conference staff and volunteers gathered for Mass at the Catholic Student Center at Missouri State University to begin this weekend's event as a team.
The celebrant was Bishop Edward Rice, auxilary bishop of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis, who began his homily by stating that he doesn't like the Gospel reading of the day. He said he would have much rather that today's Gospel would have been Jesus feeding of the five thousand, or walking on the water, or something that makes us feel warm and fuzzy inside.
But, he said, "We are called the give these teens the fullness of the Gospel, as it is proclaimed by the Church - and part of the Gospel is the cross. We can't limit the Gospel to just the parts that we want to hear."
You can hear the full text of his homily here. This weekend, 3,500 teens will have the chance to hear the fullness of the Gospel, perhaps in a way they never have before. Please keep all of them - and us - in your prayers.
